Work Experience
December 2007 – February 2008 - Moorfields St George’s – Clinic Clerk/Receptionist
In this position my main duty was in public services and relations. As well as greeting the patients and checking them in, I had to book appointments with them and deal with patient complaints. As there was a long waiting time and it was difficult to book short term appointments I had to deal with angry patients on a daily basis and employ diplomacy as well as assertiveness. Also often I had to find patient files and cover the emergency clinic’s reception, as well as learn about the computer system that the hospital used.
August 2006 – March 2007
Sainsbury’s Streatham Common – Food To Go Counter Assistant
This position entailed working with dangerous machinery and dealing with customers, which required alertness and concentration, as well contributing free-time to health and safety courses. I also had to deal with customer complaints as well as having to help them find items in the store. Multi-tasking was essential in this busy and often frantic position as well as team work skills. Colleagues relied on me to organise the daily tasks such as cooking and cleaning times. This position contributed to my ability to work confidently under pressure.
9th December – 24th December 2005
Harrods of Knightsbridge – Grotto Host
With a waiting time of up to six hours, I was required to employ a high level of diplomacy and friendly customer service. As well as entertaining and talking to the customers while they queued, I worked on the tills and answered customer enquiries, both on the phone and in person. As Harrods is a high prestige employer I was required to be presentable, polite and sociable at all times. This role helped develop a high level of patience and an ability to work under pressure.
July – August 2004
Fusion – Office Assistant
As an Office Assistant my work consisted mostly of duties such as photocopying, typing, filing and dealing with enquiries. It was my responsibility to communicate important messages and interact with different people, both public and employees of the company. This role allowed me to utilise my I.T skills when creating documents and spreadsheets.
October 2003 – January 2004
Allders – Food Service Assistant
During this time I worked at Allders of Croydon in their self-service restaurant. Most of my work was as part of a team in food and drink service, as well as clearing the tables during the day and clearing and restocking the restaurant at the end of the day. This meant that a large part of my work involved working efficiently as a team as well as independent interaction with the public developing strong customer service and human relation skills.
July 2001
Clapham Manor Primary School – Work Experience
As a Classroom Assistant my work included childcare, computer use, correcting the children’s work and both communicating and working effectively with children and adults. It helped develop a confidence in public speaking and presentations.
Interests and Activities
I have an interest in animal welfare, and current world affairs. In my spare time I often attend local meetings on such issues, and I donate to two charities on a monthly basis. I subscribe to an animal welfare magazine, which I receive on a monthly basis from the R.S.P.C.A. I have a keen interest in theatre and creative writing. I am also part of a writing community, in which I read and review other writers work, and other writers and artists review my work. I go to my local gym once a week and I like to stay active as well as challenge myself intellectually. I housesit, during the holidays, and often baby-sit and work as a tutor as well.
