PERSONAL PROFILE:
A highly motivated and enthusiastic Political Economy student with ambitions to experience new cultures and give back to communities, whilst possessing a wide range of relevant skills including good communication, teamwork and leadership qualities. I am looking to develop these skills and ambitions through teaching abroad.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Modules undertaken 1st Year: Data analysis methods, Foundations of Political science, Foundations of International Relations, Classical Political Thought, Principles of Economics, Introduction to Political Economy.
Second year average of 62.5 (2:1)
Modules undertaken 2nd Year: Advanced Methods, Political Analysis, British Politics, International Political Economy, Economic Development, Institutions, Policies of the European Union.
Final year expected 2:1 or above
Modules undertaken in 3rd Year: Contemporary International Political Economy, Political Economy of the European Union, Power In Britain, International Organizations alongside 12000 word dissertation entitled “Should Britain Join the Euro: An Analysis of the Economics, Politics and Popular opinions”.
Skills Gained- I am extremely proficient in time management, which I have developed through my busy schedule at University, handing in written assignments, reading and attending seminars and lectures. Additionally I have gained strong communication skills through presentations and playing an active part in seminars. As my grades reflect I am very hard working and will apply this to every working atmosphere or challenge. The nature of my subject is essay-based, which has developed my vocabulary, grammar and punctuation of the English language, all skills that will be transferable to any working environment and specifically suited to teaching.

WORK HISTORY:
August 2004-2006: Crew Member for Burger King, Thrapston.
· A part-time job sustained whilst at school, which reinforced my solid work ethic.
· I worked within a team in a busy pressured environment, which enhanced my teamwork abilities and organizational and time management skills.
· The job involved serving members of the public and thus enhanced my customer service, interpersonal and communication skills.
· Furthermore I was well recognized for being amicable and always polite to customers.
June 2007: Promoter (PR) Communique, Birmingham.
· Conducted a customer survey and recorded data for Big D peanuts Ltd, alongside raising awareness for testicular cancer.
· The results I recorded were used in a nation-wide advertising campaign alongside highlighting an important health issue.
· I advanced my confidence in speaking to strangers and developed communication skills further both of which I feel will be vital skills when embarking on a career in teaching.
June- August 2007: Ride Operator, Wicksteed Park, Kettering.
· A summer job where I worked within a team with individual responsibilities such as; safety checks, controlling machinery and managing queues.
· The customer base was predominantly children and young adults, which enabled me to acquire skills relating to dealing with these age groups. This will be transferable to a teaching environment and I feel has put me in good stead for a teaching position.
August- September 2007: Barman/ Waiter, Chasers, Crete.
· An interesting experience working abroad for a month. I traveled independently, finding accommodation, a job and friends quickly. The job involved both bartending and providing a waiter service.
· I feel this job developed my own initiative and developed my ability to work in an environment completely unknown to me at the time.
· From this experience my confidence in my own abilities to travel independently grew and furthered my passion for experiencing new places and culture.
OTHER ACHIEVEMENTS & ADDITIONAL SKILLS:
Information Technology:
· Comprehensive user of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint. I am proficient in using the Internet and communication via email.
Languages:
· I have basic French and German skills.
Scouting and Duke of Edinburgh:
· I was a member of the Scouting movement until the age of 16 and was awarded the Chief Scout Award. Furthermore, through the Scouts I obtained the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. Both these awards took commitment and the mastering of a variety of outdoor and social activities.
Sailing:
· I was a member of the Middle Nene Sailing Club for three years, in which time I gained NSSA Gold sailing award. This was the top award for juniors.
Basketball:
· At secondary school I was a member of the first team basketball team for three years. This developed my teamwork abilities and communication skills in a recreational environment.
Charity Work:
· For thirteen years I collected money for Junior Mission For All (JMA), a Christian charity where the proceeds are sent to less economically developed countries.
· Also I have collected money for the charity Leprosy Relief Association (LEPRA).
INTERESTS:
MUSIC: I enjoy a variety of music ranging through most genres.
TRAVELLING: I have had a passion for new places and am a naturally inquisitive person. I have visited places such as India, Mexico and the majority of Europe and like to immerse myself in different cultures and languages.
SPORT: I enjoy a wide variety of sports such as golf, snooker, football and basketball. I go to the gym regularly and like to keep fit.
SOCIETIES: I am an active member of the Social Sciences Society at the University of Birmingham, attending meetings and socials.
