Work Experience:
August 2006 - July 2007; Business Development Officer ProEconomy LTD, Leighton Buzzard
July 2007 – Current; Regulatory Consultant ProEconomy LTD, Leighton Buzzard
  • Initially recruited due to my scientific background on a short term basis to produce technical dossiers for the E.U Biocidal Products Directive 98/8/EC, for ProEconomy, a small company which manufactures and sells water treatment systems for Legionella eradication.
  • I was made permanent and given the role of Business Development Officer. My primary duty to deal with all issues concerning governmental regulation, legislation and guidelines that affected the current or future operations of the business.  My secondary duty was to generate sales for the company.
  • Key tasks that I carried out to ensure ProEconomy were compliant with regulatory legislation and guidelines included negotiating the company’s entry into a task force of multinational companies, (co-operating to get silver listed on annex I of the BPD), representing them at meetings of said task force in Brussels and in direct meetings with Dutch and UK government representatives, and writing a speech delivered in the House of Commons by South-West Beds MP Andrew Selous. This was in addition to producing product dossiers for E.U Directive 98/8/EC.
  • With regard to sales, my duties included identifying potential clients, approaching them to inform them of our product, gauging interest, following up enquiries made by potential clients, arranging and attending meetings with interested parties and writing/giving presentations. The product contained complex scientific hardware that varied hugely in cost depending on client circumstances, and was typically priced in the tens of thousands of pounds. I was also was involved in selling sampling and maintenance packages for the product.
  • The regulatory aspect of the role was primarily individual, but I was occasionally required to put together and manage a team of temporary staff. The sales aspect of the job was as a member of a permanent team.
  • I finished full time work for ProEconomy in the summer of 2007 in order to relocate to South Wales, I still act in a consultant role and advise/represent them with regards to regulatory affairs on a contracted basis.
